Pupil Premium

The government provides schools with additional pupil premium funding to support children from low income families who are or have been eligible for free school meals, children who have been in care continuously for more than 6 months and children with parents in the armed forces (or who have served in the armed forces in the past).

Everyone should make an application for Free School meals, as if it is successful the school gets additional funding called Pupil Premium. This still has to be applied for even if your child has a free meal in Key Stage 1.

The funding is intended to help tackle underachievement for these pupils. At Foxhill approximately 14% of our pupils are in receipt of pupil premium funding.

We use this funding to:

  • Ensure that the educational needs of all pupils are met through high quality teaching

  • Ensure that appropriate additional provision is made for pupils who belong to vulnerable groups.

How to apply even if your child is in Key Stage 1 and gets a free meal automatically:

Principles

  • We ensure that quality first teaching and learning opportunities meet the needs of all of the pupils.

  • We ensure that appropriate provision is made for pupils who belong to vulnerable groups; this includes ensuring that the needs of socially disadvantaged pupils are adequately assessed and addressed.

  • In making provision for socially disadvantaged pupils, we recognise that not all pupils who receive free school meals will be socially disadvantaged.

  • We also recognise that not all pupils who are socially disadvantaged are registered or qualify for free school meals. We reserve the right to allocate the Pupil Premium funding to support any pupil or groups of pupils the school has legitimately identified as being in need of intervention and support.

  • Pupil Premium funding will be allocated following a needs analysis which will identify priority classes, groups or individuals. Limited funding and resources means that not all children receiving free school meals will be in receipt of pupil premium interventions at one time.

We regularly review the impact of the measures listed to ensure they represent both value for money and have played a direct role in improving the achievement of students of all abilities. The  new Strategy will be published by 31st December.

Schools decide how Pupil Premium is spent and are held accountable for how they have used additional funding to support pupils from low income families. Please see the link below for information regarding how the pupil premium was spent in the last financial year and the plans for future spending.
